I was gifted one of the price s by the brand a few years ago and it was honestly the worst sleep product i have ever slept on. I didn't realise Attia, Huberman and Walker sat on their advisory board but as 3 of the 4 horsemen of bad sleep it does not surprise me at all.

The product was noisy, took ages to set up and incredibly uncomfortable and the tracking was massively off, giving me and my wife scores in the 90's despite us not sleeping at all. you should never trust a racket in a product as it'll tell you the product works great. I reported my experience to the brand but was told tk try it for longer, which was a non starter after the poor sleep we had already had.

My experience was surprise as all the online reviews talked abkut how great the product is, but then I realised they all had affiliate links and after rooting round on reddit found quite a few people whose experience was similar to mine in terms of customer service and product experience.

Eight sleep talks abkut he operating system for sleep and the thought fills me with dread as if this comes to pass, we are all going to sleep a lot worse.

James- thanks for your detailed reply and thoughts! In general, my patients have been satisfied with their experience, but I'm sorry to hear yours. Given the cost point, etc. I think it is reasonable to have a high expectation of the product, so that is disappointing it had such a negative response for you. As you indicate, if Eight hopes to be a large OS for sleep, it needs to provide a significant value add and value.

How have your patients found the comfort of the pod?

I am in the U.K. so culturally the feel

of our mattresses are different, but it was so uncomfortable and made my decent mattress feel like a cattle grid.

have That's the bit I don't get when people say it works for them, (and tbh i've never talked directly to anyone who has so haven't been able to ask,) but how bad was their mattress before???

It epitomises where we are at with sleep tech right now and the same criticism I have of Wighr Sleep I i would level at other brands in the space, over exaggerated marketing, lack of acknowledgement of the things that aren't quite right yet, and celebrity endorsements and payments, both hidden(.look at Attia and Oura,) and public that don't allow honest assessment of the product.

All tech needs to go through a development process to get good, i think it would be better for poor sleepers if as we go through the process the brands are more honest, with less smoke and mirrors about the limitations of their products.

Yes, I think you're highlighting that sleep has basically gone commercial. Which is great in terms of attention/money. The difference is we're talking about HEALTH and not just WELLNESS. Many of these companies want it both ways- they want reimbursement from insurance companies/HSA's, but also want to bypass the scrutiny we level on medical devices and interventions. I still think it's a net positive, as having patients motivated to improve their health/sleep is a good thing, but as always the marketing can gloss over the nuances.
